My room was furnished with traditional Chinese-style furniture, which looked elegant but was a bit uncomfortable to sit in. The garden view brightened my stay, though I did encounter a minor bathroom smell that I found is common in character hotels.

The staff were friendly and very helpful. They quickly responded to my requests, especially when I struggled with the safe. Google Translate was invaluable since their English was limited.

The hotel's location in a hutong is an oasis amidst the sprawling city. I loved being close to the gorgeous Confucius and Lama temples and the charming shops leading down to the lake.

Breakfast was interesting, served on a tray without much choice. The options leaned more towards Japanese cuisine than Western, but there were decent Chinese alternatives.

While there are no lifts and I was on the top floor, the gardens were a beautiful feature that enhanced my stay. Overall, the ambiance was quite nice, despite the dining options not being a standout.
